Barons Off to Strong Start in U17
The Bishops Barons downed the Highlanders in their first game at the U17 NLBA Provincials on Friday April 24th. A. Gough led the offense with 20pts and 8stls. Rookie S. Ezekiel added 13pts and J. Nofle 11pts to lead the scoreboard. K. Swantee and R. Evans led the Barons Rebouding effort with 6 boards a piece. Excellent defense, solid game play and good hustle from all player led to the victory for the Bishops Barons.

Barons Flying High at 4A Provincials
The Barons once again proved their standing as the 3rd strongest team in the province. Completing the round robin 3-1 and losing a well fought crossover against the St. Kevin's Mavericks. Congratulations to Sarah Hansford for being award the Bishops College Individual Sportsmanship award.
Game 1 VS. Zaga A
In the the Barons best offensive performance of the year, the Barons scored 74pts against the Gonzaga vikings, yet 20pts short of the win. The Barons captured 30rbs but committed 24 turnovers to the fast-footed and sharp shooting hands of the Gonzaga Vikings. A. Gough led the offense with 29pts, 10rbs. A. Martret added 15pts, 6rbs, and 3 stls and L.Crocker chipped in 12pts, 7rbs in a great effort. As a team the Barons posted 33% from the line, 43% from 3 pt range and 71% from the foul line. Player of the game was awarded to A. Gough.
Game 2 VS. St. Bon's
In a crowd-pleasing nail biter, the Barons who trailed the Phoenix the entire game came through to edge out St. Bons' 86-84 in overtime play Friday morning. Scoring was led by A. Martret (27pts), A. gough (20pts), and S. Hansford (12pts). Each of the three added another 4rbs, while L.Crocker added another 4 and J. Noftle another 5. J. Noftle and A. Edmunds chipped in 3 steals a piece for a crucial tournament win. As a team the Barons shot 48% from the field, 50% from the 3pt line, and 59% from the free throw line. Played of the game was awared to A. Edmunds.
Game 3 VS. Roncalli
The Barons downed the Roncalli Cardinals 72-53 to move to a 2-1. The Barons grabbed 31 rebounds and 15 steals against the Cardinals and shot 36% from the field, 14% from the 3pt line and 65% from the line. A. Martret les the Barons with 21pts 10rbs, and 5 steals. A. Gough added 15pts with L. Crocker and S. Hansford each adding another 10pts for the win. Played of the game was awarded to A. Martret.
Game 4 VS. O'Donel
The Barons put forth a solid team effort to defeat the O'Donel Patriots 64-45 and earn a berth to the crossovers against the St. Kevin's Mavericks. L. Crocker led the charge with 17 pts, 4rbs. A. Gough added 13 pts and A. Martret added 10 pts. L. Sutton chipped in 5rbs and 4 blocks for the win. As a team the Barons shot 49% from the field, 29% from the 3pt line and 62% from the line. The Barons only racked up 19 rebounds and committed 21 turnovers. Player of the game was awarded to L. Crocker.
Crossover vs. St. Kevins
The Barons 3 game winning streak was broken by a 73-60 loss to the Mavericks. Poor rebounds (28) and high turnovers (20) cost the Barons the game versus a hot handed St. Kevin's team. A. Gough led the offense with 16pts, 6rbs, and 4 stls. L. Crocker added 14 pts, 5rbs and A. Martret 13pts, 5rbs. Barons shot 41% from the line, were 1 for 18 (5%) from the 3pt-line, and 45% from the line. Player of the game was awarded to J. Noftle.

The Barons shot only 33% from the field, 8% from the 3pt line, but a solid 75% from the line. The Barons posted 43 rebounds but committed 17 turnovers handing the ball to a hot handed Heart team. L. Crocker led the offensive with 16pts, 9rbs and 3 stls. A. Gough added 13 pts while A. Martret added 11 pts, 5 rbs, and 5 stls. A. Edmunds and J. Noftle added 9 and 7 rbs respectively.

Poor team shooting contributed to the loss: 34% from the field, 0% from the 3pt line, and 48% from the line.

Baron's Record Improves
Barons have improved their league record to 5-2 after 2 big wins against St. Bons and Booth. This also brings the Barons record for the year to 23-11.
VS. St Bon's
The Lady Barons downed St. Bon's 59-43 in a sound defensive game. A. Gough and A. Martret less the offense with 15pts a piece, while L. Crocker added 11pts and 10rbs the win. S. Hansford and R. Evans added 10 and 9rbs respectively and J. Noftle 5 stls for the win. The Barons took down 42 rebounds for the win, shooting 50% from the line and only 31 from the field.
VS. Booth
The Barons edged out the Booth Braves 63-61 in yet another too close for comfort game. A. Martret led the charge with 21pts and 5stls. A. Gough added 19pts, 9rbs, and 3blks. J. Noftle chipped in 10pts, 8rbs for the win. L. Crocker added another 8rbs and 3 stls for in the winning effort. Barons show true colours at ELITE 8
The 5th ranked Lady Barons defeated the 3rd and 4th seeded Booth Braves and Holy Herat Highlanders to advance to the semi-final game against the Gonzaga Vikings. The girls dropped a loss to the Vikings but prove to fans and skeptics that Bishops are the 3rd ranked team in the province. Congratulations to A. Gough who was awareded one of 8 tournament allstars.
VS. HEART
The Mighty Red Barons took our the 4 seed 56-54 in the Elite 8 opening game for the Barons. A.Gough took charge with 24pts, 18rbs, and 4 stls. A.Martret added 14pts while J.Noftle added 7 pts, 6rbs for the win. S. Hansford added another 7 rbs of the Barons 45 team rebounds. Player of the game was presented to A. Gough.

Dig for Gold at the Huskies Classic
This past weekend the Bishops Barons Sr. Girls Basketball Team captured gold at the Mount Pearl Senior High Classic.
VS. MOUNT PEARL
The Lady Barons defeat the Huskies 59-34 in the tournament opener. A. Martret led the scoring with 17pts with L.Crocker and A. Gough adding 12 and 9pts respectively. A. Edmunds and R. Evans added 6 and 5 rebounds respectively for the win. Team rebounding (31rbs) led to victory despite shooting 26% from the field and 60% from the line.
VS. GANDER
Bishops trounced Gander 65-35. A. Martret led the attack with 22pts, J. Noftle added 9pts and 4stls, while R. Evans added 8pts for the win. L. Mackenzie and L.Sutton each added 6rbs to seal the Barons success. Luckily for the Lady Barons 37 team rebounds outweighed the 30 team turnovers. The girls shot 32% from the field and 45% from the line.

The Barons downed the O'Donel Patriots 72-61 in game play on Saturday to seal a berth in the Crossover Sunday morning. A. Gough led the scoreboard with 33pts followed by A Martret with 17pts and J. Noftle with 8pts. L. Crocker hits the boards with 10rbs and A.Edmunds added another 6rbs for the win. Barons hit 42% from the field, 60% from the 3-pt and 48% from the line.
VS. ZAGA B
In nailbiting action, the Lady Barons edged out the Zaga B vikings 52-49 to move on to the championship game. The Barons after losing their captain late in the 1st half kept spirits high to fight over the advancing Vikings. A. Gough led the offense with 14pts, A. Martret added 10pts and L. Crocker 9pts. R. Evans hit the boards for 10rbs and J.Noftle added 7 rbs for the win. The Barons were lucky to advance shooting only 27% from the field, 20% from the 3pt and 61% from the line. The Barons put up 34 team rebounds to just get by to the final game.

BBI 2009
This years Bishops Barons Invitational was a great success on the court and as a fundraiser for the Sr. Girls Basketball team. We would like to extend congratulations to our new Champions the St. Kevin's Mavericks who defeated the two-time defending champions the Gonzaga Vikings 62-56 in exciting gameplay on Sunday Jan 18th, 2009. We would also like to thank all team participating this year for a great tournament.
Bishops vs Roncali
In the Barons tourney opener, Bishops defeated the Roncali Cardinals 47-33. The Barons offense was led by #7 L. Crocker with 10pts, 6 rbs. A. Martret added 9 points, A.Gough and S. Hansford each added another 7 pts for the win.
Bishops vs. Heart
In a crowd pleasing performance the Bishops Barons edged out Holy Heart 78-76 to cinch 1st place in their division heading into the Quarter Final. A. Gough led the attack with 26pts and 8 rbs. A. Martret added 20pts. S. Hansford added 10pts 11 rbs and L. Crocker 8pts 10rbs for the win. Bishops racked up 41 rebounds to seal the Barons success.
Bishops vs. Westenders
In a fast paced game vs the Grade 8 all-star Club team, the Bishops Barons dominated the Westenders 87-73, despite a 34pt lead going into the 4th quarter. A. Martret was on fire with 37pts and 9 steals. A. Gough added 16pts, while J. Noftle chipped in 8pts and 5 steals for the win. Bishops shot 58% from the field and 75% from the free throw line to advance to the semi-final against St. Kevins.
Bishops vs. St. Kevins
The Lady Barons came up flat against the sharp shooting Mavericks. The Barons fought hard against the triumphant St. Kevin's team but fell short to a 80-58 loss. L. Crocker led the fight with 16pts, while A. Gough added 13pts. S. Hansford added 9 pts and 8rbs in a good losing effort.
Bishops vs Roncali
In the Barons tourney opener, Bishops defeated the Roncali Cardinals 47-33. The Barons offense was led by #7 L. Crocker with 10pts, 6 rbs. A. Martret added 9 points, A.Gough and S. Hansford each added another 7 pts for the win.

Barons ranked 6th in Province
The First set of Elite rankings have placed the Sr. Girls Bishops Barons in the 6th position for the Elite 8 - Hall of Fame Cup Tournament coming up in Feb.
