Bishops Barons show true colours at the Elite-8

The Lady Barons were invited into the Elite-8 Hall of Fame in the very controversial 8th seeded position. The Barons secured a 5th place final standing. Special congratulations to Bishops Barons rookie A. Martret for being awarded one of 5 tournament all-star awards.

Game one - 1st seed GONZAGA

In the best half of ball played by the Bishops ladies this year the girls hit the half time buzzer neck and neck with the Gonzaga vikings. The ambition and conditioning of the Gonzaga girls were too much for the Lady Barons who succombed to the fast pace of the game into the 3rd and 4th quarters. The 8th place Barons handed the 1st place vikings their first win of the tournament 83-58. The Barons shot 53% from the field, and a decent 61% from the line. A. Penney led the Barons effort with 11pts and 4 of only 13 team rebounds. A. Gough added 9 points while C. Dunn and A. Martret chipped in 8 each to earn a berth against the 2nd seed team.

Game two - 2nd seed HOLY HEART

The Barons made another valiant effort against the Holy Heart Highlanders but once again came up short against the sharp shooting former hooters. Final Score 80-66. The Barons hit only 39% from the field and 55% from the line. A. Martret led the strike with 18pts, L.Crocker and A. Gough added 13 pts each while A.Penney and E. Bursey each chipped in 8 rebounds to land the Barons in a consolation match against 6th seed Roncalli.

Game three - 6 seed RONCALLI

The Red Baron came out strong with a 25 pts first quarter to Roncallis 3 pts. Roncalli fought back but fell 14 short of the win. Final score 58-44. The Barons shot only 39% from the field and 54% from the line but pulled down 43 rebounds (7 short of the Barons rebounding record) and recorded a record 11 blocks (A. Gough for 3 and A. Edmunds for 2). Rookie scoring sensation A.Gough led the scoreboard with 19pts, S. Hansford added 9 and L. Crocker added another 8 for the win. A. Penney leds the boards with 10 rebounds. A. Martret and A. Dunn each chipped in another 8 rebounds each to seal the victory.
