2008 Bishops Barons Invitational

The 2008 Bishops Barons invitational was a huge success on and off the court. Thanks to the players and parents, our annual fundraiser nearly doubled last years fundraising efforts. Thank you to all supporters for your time and donations.
The Gold Medal was awarded to the Gonzaga Vikings who went undefeated in tournament play. Our very own Sarah Hansford won the 3pt contest, shooting 8 for 15, while Lauren Hawkins of Holy Heart won the free-throw contest handidly shooting 14 for 15 free throws. Our most sportsmanlike player medal was awarded to Laura Crocker who played an excellent tournament until an accident in the 2nd quarter of the quarter final against St. Kevin's. Laura more than proved her love of basketball and her dedication to the team when telling the paramedics to get out of the way so she could see the scoreboard.
Game 1: St. Bon's
The Bishops Barons dominated St. Bon's most of the game but poor shooting and weak rebounding cost the Barons a disppointing 2pt loss in the tournament opener. Final score 53-51.
The Barons improved their foul shooting hitting 68% from the line but hit a season season low 27% from the field. A.Penney led the Barons with 16pts and 9 rebounds while L.Crocker added 10pts and A. Gough added 7pts and 7 steals.
Game 2: Clarenville
The Barons answered back with a confident 74-47 win over the Clarenville Cougars. The Barons improved their shooting to 55% from the field but dropped to a 48% from the free throw line. E. Bursey led the offensive with 10pts, S. Hansford, A. Martret, and C. Dunn all chipped in 8pts for the win. C. Dunn, A. Gough, and A. Edmunds each added 5 rebounds with A. Edmunds chipping in 5 steals to seal the Barons win.
Game 3: Quarter-final vs St. Kevins
The St. Kevins Mavericks were out for revenge against the home team Barons. The Barons fell 68-58 against the Mavericks after losing sharp shooter L. Crocker in the 2nd quarter. The Barons once again posted a poor shooting game shooting only 29% from the field and 42% from the line. A.Martret led the offense with 25pts, with E.Bursey adding 13 and A.Gough 12 in the effort that fell short of advancing to the semi-final. C.Dunn leds the boards with 9 rebounds.
