Bishops got game at St. Catherine's

This weekend, The Bishops Barons Sr. Girls Basketball found their game down in St. Catherine's The Barons fought back from a 20pt deficit to bring the Championship game to within 5 but fell short to O'Donel in the gold medal effort. All players deserve recognitiion for a great tournament, strong team effort and spirited play on and off the bench this weekend. Congratulations to A. Martret on being awarded best defensive player of the tournament.

Game one.
The Barons once again struggled against the O'Donel Patriots in their opening game of the tournament. The short benched Barons took a 71-58 loss to the Patriots Friday evening only shooting 41% from the field and 50% from the line. Rookie A. Martret led the offense with 20pts and 4 steals. A. Gough added 16pts and 7 rebounds while B. Peddle and C. Dunn both added 7 pts.

Game two.
The Bishops Barons, 6 and 1/2 strong, faced Baltimore on Saturday. B.Peddle, J.McNeil, S.Burke, A.Martret, C.Dunn, L.Crocker and an injured A.Gough carried the team into playoff contention with a well played offensive and defensive game. In the best overall shooting game so far this year, the Barons shot 48% from the field, 40% from the 3pt line, and 71% from the line. A. Martret led the offense with 24 pts while C. Dunn added 13pts and 10 rebounds. All 6 1/2 players scored to lead Bishops to a 67-47 win over Baltimore.

Game three.
Barons faced the Corner Brook Titans with a full bench Saturday afternoon with crossovers on the line. The Barons struggled to get their game together shooting 39% from the field, 52% from the line but went 3 for 3 in 3 pt shots (according to your stats sheets). L.Crocker and A.Penney led the Barons with 13pts while E.Bursey added 8pts for a 65-54 win over the Titans. A.Penney crashed the boards for 9 rebounds and A.Martret tracked 5 steals to seal an advance to the Crossover game against the undefeated St. Kevins Team.

Game four. Crossovers.
The Barons edged past the St. Kevins Mavericks late in the 4th quarter to give them 70-64 win over the undefeated Mavericks and win a berth in the Championship game against the O'Donel Patriots. The Barons shot 53% from the line, 50% from the 3pt line and posted a team best 51% from the field. Rookie A.Gough took charge with 19pts and 4 steals. A.Penney added 17pts and a record 20 rebounds for the Bishops Barons. A.Martret chipped in 11pts for the win. Exceptional team defense and team effort cinched the game for the Barons.

Game five. Championship.
The Barons struggled through the first 3 and 1/2 quarters of the championship game. Not finding any rythym the Barons dropped to a 20pt deficit against the O'Donel Patriots by midway through the 4th quarter. Barons struggled at the line shooting a record low 36% and only 40% from the field. With defense falling apart and the Barons offense being shutdown, the Barons fought back with the spirit and support of their teammates to bring the barons to within 3 in the final minute of the game. The last quarter effort brought the Barons just shy of the win, final score 67-62 Patriots. M.Philpott led the charge with 15pts and A.Gough adding 12pts, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. E.Bursey chipped in 10pts and 8 rebounds adding to a great comeback effort by the Barons.
